I do CrossFit because, when I do it, I am a better version of myself everyday. It has helped me get through my lowest point in life and made me stronger. CrossFit helps me love myself for who I am that God made me to be. CrossFit helps me love my body for what it is.
CrossFit has gifted me with friends that I absolutely love dearly who are also family to me. It helps me become a better athlete so I can preform at my best. CrossFit helps me with my ADHD, I struggled badly in the past with it but CrossFit has helped me understand how to control my mental game and everyday I am improving more and more. I have loved fitness ever since I was 4 and my dream job is to teach PE at the high school level, coach softball, and coach CrossFit. I want to help others to realize their true potential and realize how AMAZING it is to be freaking strong and have muscles. I am thankful I found CrossFit because it has helped shape me into who I am today and I keep growing everyday.

After I retired, I was looking for something or someplace that I could be a part of. I also wanted to be able keep up with her granddaughter, who is a ball of energy. I had tried other gyms, but nothing seemed to stick. That’s when I found CrossFit Lacey. Everyone here is accepting and wants to help you to be the best you can be.
One of my favorite things to do at CrossFit Lacey is Barbell Club, I was reaching the “workout plateau” where you reach maximum effect from working out and you may even see a dip in output. Barbell club helped me reengage my fitness and push me past the workout plateau. Barbell club also helped me with my injury recovery when I tore my MCL and Meniscus in my knee. It was a long road to recovery, but CrossFit worked with my orthopedic protocol which called for a specially designed 12-week recovery course.
I have also noticed how CrossFit Lacey and Barbell Club have helped my daily life. While. I have also noticed a general increase in well-being since starting at CrossFit Lacey and now even schedule my day around when I can go to work-out. I also work out with my husband and love what it has done for us. It’s like having bonus date nights during the week. We push each other to do better and go further.
I, like most people, dreaded lifting heavy objects in my daily life. There was a time where I was lifting a heavy pressure washer into a vehicle. I had done similar tasks in the past and always struggled with it. However, this time I lifted it with no problem and was shocked how easy it was.
I retired into a loving community, which accepted me for who I am but also pushed me to be the best version of myself.

Hey there my name is Isiah and once weighing in at my “One Rep Max” of 360 lbs., was a real eye opener, I began working out on my own and hit the infamous plateau. I finally took the best decision of my life and tried CrossFit in March of 2015. At first it was beyond intimidating, intense, and scary. However, I was extremely fortunate to begin a physical and mental transformation at CrossFit Lacey Training Day, where all of those emotions are left at home or in the car. The community of athletes and coaches is pretty surreal. After a week or two of feeling a love/hate amount of soreness, I was actually able to see progress, and it became an addiction. I can honestly contribute my career and educational success to this crazy CrossFit business, it has been able to help me control aspects of myself I would otherwise have let go.
Most people I interact with have a pretty good idea how much I care about the CrossFit community, whether it is by seeing my water bottle stickers, or t-shirts I have earned from dropping in at gyms around the world. Sure, it would be great to have a chance to be in the same category of same elite athletes, but just to know I am able to complete a modified version of their workouts is extremely empowering. Take the CrossFit Open for instance, although I may place far from first, the feeling of completing the same workout as some of the greats delivers an undeniable feeling of accomplishment. The time, money, and effort I have put into myself has been one of the best rewards I could ever ask for.
One of the best parts about finding CrossFit is never being bored or under challenged, I’ve yet to leave the gym feeling unsatisfied. I’ve had the honor to be coached by so many awesome humans, and here are a few things that make them special to me: Coach Rachel aka “quadzilla” has the ability dream of some “spicy” but enjoyable workouts, Coach Ronnie is as clear and concise as Major Payne, Coach Buzz and his classic 80’s buttrock playlist, Coach Cassy ensures mobility and stretching is significant to a great workout, Coach Ben doesn’t believe in quitting, Coach Betsy is as loveable as “Purple Rain”, Coach Deandre’s calm and collective demeanor helps ensure quality lifts, Coach Melissa has the best protein belches mid WOD, Coach Sunny has a sense of near defeat and encourages just “one more”, Coach Maggie can pin point a fault in a lift and after listening to her tips hearing her say “Amen!” after a smooth snatch is beyond inspiring, and then there is Coach Desiree’s remarkable strength and energy. Most importantly are the members that have the power to push you to either finish a workout or simply be there as a good friend. Some great relationships have evolved from this place for me, and I cannot wait for others to experience the same. The gratitude I have for you all is simply priceless, looking forward to many many many more Gains!
I have made some great friends through CrossFit. Everyone is always willing to help and so supportive. I remember when I decided to compete in my first CrossFit Festivus competition I was amazed at how many members of the gym showed up to support me. It was truly heartening as I didn’t even know some of them. Something that I think is really neat is that at Training Day everyone works out with everyone. Meaning that coaches and RX workout with beginners. I have found this to be very inspiring. As a newbie to CrossFit it gave me a chance to see how strong you can be if you put the effort in and it gave me something to strive for. I remember seeing some of the more advanced member’s bodies and all the muscles they had and thinking to myself, “I want to look like that.” So after doing CrossFit for about 3 months I decided to go all in by signing up for my first CrossFit competition and going to Rachel for nutrition. Since starting CrossFit and seeing Rachel I have gone from 27% body fat to 18% while gaining 8 pounds of muscle! I have learned new healthy ways of eating and I even found out that I have a food allergy. I tore my ACL playing soccer a few years ago and my knee has never felt better since I started CrossFit. I feel like each day I keep getting stronger and I’m starting to look like those strong members. I never thought I’d be one to have a strong upper body, but now I do! You put in what you get out and I can’t get enough of it!
Even though my first CrossFit competition was tough it taught me to push myself and that it’s good to sometimes push yourself outside of your comfort zone. I can’t believe how strong I have become over the 9 months I’ve been at Training Day and I wouldn’t have been able to get here without the help and support of all the coaches and members.

A RUNNERS STORY
I have always been a very active person but was on and off with my fitness and struggled to keep a healthy weight as I had a tendency to be underweight. I smoked for many years and when I quit, I took on running as a way to de-stress and regain my health. I ran several half marathons, but really had my eye on running a full marathon and knew I would need some help as I found myself bonking down on runs. In July 2014, I consulted Rachel Janny of Whole Origins Nutrition to help me with my diet and goal of running the Seattle Marathon in November. At the time I was struggling with long time mobility issues in my knee, hamstring and foot, which prevented me from making it past the 13 mile mark without my whole left side falling apart. Rachel encouraged me to give CrossFit a try to help build strength and supplement my running training. I was apprehensive because I had a bad experience when I tried CrossFit 5 years prior but I went ahead and started at Training Day in August. My plan was to CrossFit 1-2 days a week during my marathon training, with running being priority and CrossFit being second. As my marathon training continued I found my injuries getting worse and were preventing me from progressing. By early fall, Rachel encouraged me to pull out of the marathon and focus on strengthening my weakened left side through CrossFit and ease off the running, so that’s what I did. I was in the box at least 3 to 4 days a week with minimal running.
At the gym I learned how to foam roll and use the lacross ball to help mobilize, in addition to the regular daily training. I am a professional hair stylist and my left shoulder has given me problems for 20 years from holding a blow dryer. I had regular cortisone shots, massage and chiropractic to ease the pain. As I got further in to CrossFit training, I started to realize that my shoulder issues virtually disappeared and I was no longer having to see the chiropractor. In December I decided to sign up for a marathon in Eugene Oregon for May 2015, which meant training had to start in January. By this time I had been in the box for 3 months with pretty consist work. This time, my training plan was to CrossFit 3 days a week and run 3 days a week and instead of running tons of miles I planned to give equal intensity to both and focus on quality over quantity. As my training progressed, I began to run 13 miles with ease and no issues. I was shocked that my program working so well! I was running 15,16,17,18 miles and coming into the gym to PR on my weights and was gaining speed and strength rapidly. When I started seeing Rachel and began CrossFit, I weighed 121lbs and was at 26% body fat. Today I am 127lbs and am at 17% body fat, I have lost fat and gained muscle. This May I ran my FIRST marathon AND qualified for the Boston Marathon!
CrossFit workouts take you to that dark place over and over again. You push yourself beyond what you thought you could, all while your community is cheering you on and reminding you that “you got this” even when you feel like you don’t. There is nothing like the feeling of accomplishment you have whenever you complete a WOD. This is exactly what got me through the last 5 miles of that 26.2 race, knowing I had been in this place of pain before and that I had a community at Training Day that was cheering me on. I have never been a part of something this special. The coaching I have received is invaluable and helped me accomplish my goal of qualifying for the Boston. I seriously never thought of myself as an athlete, I am a mom, a wife, stylist and business owner, but at Training Day we are all athletes!

I have 4 herniated discs in my neck, one of which impinges a nerve that sometimes causes my right hand and part of my arm to go numb. I have lived with back pain my entire adult life and it has been debilitating for long stretches at a time. I have seen multiple orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, my family doctor and chiropractor over the course of the last 15 years and although I will inevitably need surgery someday, not a single medical professional has given me any physical limitations. This seems crazy considering the amount of pain I had throughout my daily life, however, it didn’t take me too long to discover that being sedentary made my pain worse. The height of my back pain came after my pregnancies as I recovered from 2 c-sections and was unable to workout for 3 months. I would get cortisone injections a couple times a year to reduce inflammation and pain but since I began CrossFit 2 years ago, I have only had one and that was early in my training and shortly after an abdominal hernia surgery that prevented me from working out for 2-3 months. It is actually mind blowing when I reflect on the fact that my back pain has almost completely dissipated. I attribute this to the fact that I am building the muscles that support my degenerating discs and keeping blood flow to the unhealthy portion of my spine. I’m no doctor, this is just my non-educated assumption.
My husband did CrossFit for 3 years before me and I was very apprehensive to start because I had all these pre-conceived misconceptions about what it was. All I knew about it was based on the crazy people I would see at the CrossFit games and thought, “I could never do that”. Little did I know, those elite competitive athletes at the games represent around 1% of the CrossFit population. I am so glad I gave it a chance as it has transformed my life in the most amazing way. So much so in fact, that my husband and I decided to invest our life savings into starting a CrossFit gym! I love the community first and foremost! I love having the support and friendships, these people inspire and motivate me daily. I love the training! Every day I walk through the door, I know I am going to be pushed to my mental and physical limits with the direction of exceptional coaches who know me and my injuries and know when I need to scale back or push harder. There are some movements that are more challenging than others for me, wall balls in high reps are tough because I am constantly looking up and my neck hates me in the moment, but I am getting stronger and stronger. I feel so empowered throwing weight over my head when my body has previously told me I can’t. I have seen other athletes come back from worse injuries than mine, only to become exceedingly strong! I have witnessed people who have never worked out a day in their life, transform their bodies in ways they never thought they could and become healthier in the process. Our gym has people of every walk of life, every different background, physical disabilities, from ages 4-78, we are so diverse and we come together and celebrate our accomplishments.
I love that my daughters get to see strong woman working hard at the gym and that they aspire to be like them. It is so awesome that my whole family gets to be part of something so positive, healthy and fun. There are many other ways to get fit and stay healthy, and I applaud anyone who is making an effort to better themselves. CrossFit is not the only way, but to me it is the most effective way I have found and I couldn’t be more grateful to have found it! My advice to anyone who has similar injuries to mine, and providing their doctor approves, is to fight through the initial pain because I promise it gets better and better.

"I started CrossFit on a whim in July 2013, I barely knew what I was getting myself into, but I knew I needed to do something! My husband suggested I try CrossFit - I got an awesome bootcamp deal, so I just jumped right in. My first day, I was greeted by Ronnie Knighton. Ronnie made my experience one of a kind! Naturally I became a member of CrossFit Lacey Training Day (CFL) the day the doors opened, and I have not regretted my decision to do so. CFL is more than just a gym; it’s a second home, we have all become friends, and we hold each other accountable. Since my first day of CrossFit, I have had many friends join, including my best friend, and more recently my husband. My seven year old even likes to workout, it makes me proud to share this experience with him, and build his awareness in making healthy life decisions.
CrossFit has brought a new level of activity to my life, and I feel a difference in my overall health. I am getting stronger all the time, I see the changes in both my appearance and my abilities. Anyone can do CrossFit, and I am a perfect testament to this. It has gotten easier, but it is by no means easy; I am constantly pushed to exceed my own expectations, and greeted with pride in my achievements. I know that my success is CFL’s success. I know that when I walk through the doors of CrossFit Lacey I will be welcomed by one of their knowledgeable coaches. I know I will be motivated to push myself, using proper form, while having a good time."
